THE GREAT RACE WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, JULY 29TH, 2023 - 5:00pm in Woods Park
A Team consists of 15 men/women. participants must be 16 years of age by race day. Combined age of all team participants must average 26 years of age or older.
The Slate Creek Relay, otherwise known as the Great Race, started on July 4th, 1977 in Wellington, Kansas. An event that involves SO MANY in the Wellington community. It takes MANY hands to pull off this amazing event each year!

FIRST LEG 360 YARD SPRINT
SECOND LEG: ¾ MILE
THIRD LEG: CROSS COUNTRY
FOURTH LEG: MOTOCROSS 250 cc, 2 ¼ MILE
FIFTH LEG: DESERT HIGHWAY ¾ MILE
SIXTH LEG: HORSE RACE, 1 1/8 MILE
SEVENTH LEG: BICYCLE, ½ MILE
EIGHTH LEG: MILE RUN
NINTH LEG: MILE RUN
TENTH LEG: TWO-MAN CANOE
ELEVENTH LEG: TWO MAN CANOE
TWELFTH LEG: ½ MILE
FINAL LEG: 360 YARD SPRINT
It's usually a hot day... sometimes we get some rain. This year has 7 teams competing.
Winning teams (1st, 2nd & 3rd) will receive CASH prizes.
The winning team name and year gets inscribed on the Great Race trophy cup!
