Every year we have visitors (yes, real tourists!) come to our office looking for Wellington souvenirs and we do not have very much to offer them. There was a hole that needed to be filled. Instead of coming up with designs ourselves, we wanted to find a great way to pick the creative brains of our community's youth while also giving them real-life experience in graphic design.
We created the Wellington Swag Student Design Contest and gave it to the Wellington High School art teachers, Mrs. Groom and Mr. Larkey, at the beginning of the school year to work into their graphic design course curriculum. We received a total of 19 entries and presented the anonymous designs to our committee to choose. They picked 5 fantastic designs and we went to work with the winners on making any necessary adjustments (more real-life experience!)
We are so very proud to announce the following winners of the first ever Wellington Swag Student Design Contest! Congratulations to Tristan Tencleve, Robert Ledesma, and Kira Worley on your great designs! Each winning design won $25 in Chamber Bucks and a free Wellington EST 1871 t-shirt. They will also each receive a free piece of swag that features their design when they arrive!
Our judges were quite surprised when they were told that 3 of the designs they selected were created by the same student! We are excited to get to work ordering t-shirts, magnets, stickers, and postcards.
Congrats again kids, you've made Wellington proud!

I read the Wellington, KS SWAG Contest post, and it was cool to see how the local Chamber invited high school art students to design T‑shirts, magnets, and postcards that show off the town’s spirit and then picked winners whose work gets turned into real souvenirs for visitors. I once stayed up late trying to finish a draft and needed Fast research proposal editing support while waiting for feedback, and that quick help helped me fix the parts I kept missing. That made me think that creative challenges and timely help can both make tough jobs feel more fun and doable.
